For a knock-out view of the city with exceptional food and wine, this hillside bar and restaurant packs a punch.

Asweeping vista paired with exceptional food and wine makes Arlo Bar and Restaurant a standout destination for both Christchurch visitors and locals. Perched high on Hackthorne Road, its outlook across the city is nothing short of breathtaking.

Owner Paula Besley knows the site well, having worked here for 15 years. “People still call us The Cup,” she says, “but we rebranded as Arlo Bar and Restaurant to move away from our café roots. We no longer offer cabinet food, our flavourful lunch and dinner menus are freshly prepared on-site, and we’re proud of our excellent wine selection.” One beloved staple remains: the seafood chowder, a favourite carried over from the café days.

Arlo has also become a sought-after venue for celebrations, from birthdays to anniversaries and other special occasions. With evening service, guests can settle in with a glass of
wine and watch the city lights come alive. “Sunset is a particular highlight”, says Paula, “an experience that elevates any meal.

Open from 11am until late, Wednesday through Sunday, Arlo also offers a popular Monday evening special: $20 pasta from 4.30pm. Book a table through the website or call 03 332 1270.
