‘Something Rotten,’ The Renaissance musical hits Christchurch stage

‘Friends, theatre lovers, lend us your ears.’

Something fabulous this way comes, and it goes by the name ‘Something Rotten’, the internationally acclaimed and “artistically brilliant Broadway musical”. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2015, this Broadway meets Shakespeare sensation prepares to dazzle Ōtautahi in all its splendour, at the renowned Court Theatre, New Zealand’s largest theatre. A cast of 23 will wow audiences on a ground-breaking new set design, built locally.

With over 300 ornate, hand-stitched (up-cycled) costumes, and an incredible creative ensemble of 75, this is the largest choreographed musical produced at The Court Theatre to date. Set in London, England in 1595, the show accompanies the ‘Bottom’ Brothers, a playwright duo, in their swashbuckling word battle to outwit Renaissance celebrity playwright, Will Shakespeare in a delicious musical plot. Enjoy raucous word play, disguises, romance, and historical Shakespearean references in an ode to a lyrical entertainment spectacular, with a splash of Court Theatre Charm.

The Court Theatre, passionately committed to bringing world-class theatre variety to whet everyone’s theatre palate. Music and lyrics by show creators, Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick. Australasian Premiere: 25 November, 2023-January 27, 2024.
