Art in all forms: Christchurch City Council

This year we’re celebrating the Year of Arts in Christchurch, and it’s set to be a winter full of creativity and culture.

Phil Mauger, Mayor of Christchurch

Our brilliant local talent is being showcased at every level and the city’s events calendar is particularly full next month.

We’ve got KidsFest back for another year for the family, the ever-popular Winter Fireworks Spectacular down at the New Brighton Pier, Tīrama Mai in town to celebrate Puaka-Matariki Māori New Year and our Go Live! music festival at the Christchurch Town Hall.
Or if events aren’t your thing, why not head down to a late night at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna Waiwhetū on a Wednesday, or a show at The Court Theatre or simply take a wander through town to have a look at some of our vibrant street art.

I really encourage everyone to get out and about this winter, and check out what’s going on.

These are great opportunities to hear about our heritage, as well as spend time with your family enjoying local music, visual art,
and installations.

Also importantly it’s a chance to support local business during the tough months – there’s nothing better than heading out, stopping for a bite to eat, and checking out some of the shops on the way to a cultural or other event.

For all things art in Christchurch, make sure that you also check out the Toi Ōtautahi website.
