Warm winter wonders
The colder seasons make it easy to stay inside, however with the school holidays approaching it’s a perfect time to tap into your inner child and explore what Canterbury has to offer outside. Whether that involves venturing up to the snow, or staying in the city, there’s plenty of fun to be had for all ages. Here are some family-friendly suggestions to make it easier for you to get out and about this winter.
1. Canterbury Museum: dinosaur rEvolution
In the comfort of our own city be transported back to the time when two-metre reptiles roamed the earth. Touch fossil casts, stare at illustrations of what dinosaurs actually looked like and even stand next to an electronic life-sized one. It’s the perfect outing for any aspiring paleontologist.
Admission: Under 15 $5. Adult $10.
2. Isaac Theatre Royal Ghostlight Film
Celebrate some classic films in style at the Isaac Theatre Royal. From 14-17 July, movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, and The Addams Family will screen in the Auditorium; an ideal option if you want to stay cosy while getting out of the house.
Admission: Under 14 $12. Adult $18.
3. Taiora QEII
Gone are the days of tiring children out at the beach. Try your luck at Taiora QEII instead. Venture down the hydroslide, splash around in the water playground or sit back, relax and drift down the lazy river. On Sunday afternoons an inflatable course gives young athletes a chance to show off their skills.
Admission: Child $3.80. Adult $6.60.
