See Christchurch this Christmas: Christchurch City Council

There’s a cheerful Christmassy buzz around the central city this December so I’d encourage you all to come into the city and see how great it’s looking.

Phil Mauger, Mayor of Christchurch

New Regent Street, Cashel Mall, and Cathedral Square have Christmas installations, the banners are up, and shop windows are all looking extremely festive and bright.

The Christchurch City Council is supporting a whole range of entertainment and events in the lead up to the big day, so do come in and get behind our central city.

The fun doesn’t stop at Christmas with our New Year’s Eve event in Hagley Park shaping up to be a cracker with Dragon performing as the headline act and lots of entertainment for the kids in the early evening.

Sparks is celebrating its 40th anniversary on 21 January at North Hagley Park, and Anthony Harper Summer Theatre returns to the Botanic Gardens on 26 January.

HOWZAT! The Complete History of Kiwi Cricket promises to be a very funny and relaxed evening of outdoor theatre. I can’t forget Kite Day at New Brighton Beach on 4 February, a great day out with kites from different cultures and beach activities as well.

After having events cancelled due to Covid-19 the past couple of years, it is really wonderful to be getting back into the swing of things.
