North Canterbury events

Experience the best of what North Canterbury has to offer for filling up a weekend.

You could begin your weekend by embarking on a guided sky tour at the Oxford Area School observatory, which is available most Friday nights.

On Saturday morning, head to the Kaiapoi Farmers Market with a friend for a delectable brunch, and a glimpse of the region’s fresh produce, handcrafted chocolates, candles, and more.
After brunch, visit the stunning lavender fields in Waikuku and capture some pictures in front of the vivid purple blooms while enjoying the scent.
Later in the evening, satisfy your hunger with a delicious dinner at one of Kaiapoi’s fantastic eateries, offering a variety of cuisines from fusion to classic pub fare. There is something to satisfy everyone’s cravings.

For an exciting activity, head to the Waimakariri and witness New Zealand’s only airboat in action, either by taking a ride or observing the boat race by.
Or you could take a scenic drive and explore the magnificent sights that North Canterbury has to offer, whether it be to the Hurunui River or along the coast to Kaikōura.
After the drive, make a stop at Waipara River Estate and indulge in a picturesque picnic with stunning views of the river and surrounding hills.

The team at Kaiapoi isite recommend Metropol readers to, “Explore the gorgeous boutique shops in Kaiapoi, Rangiora, and Oxford, followed by tastings and a platter at a Waipara winery, jet boat on the Waimakariri and Hurunui Rivers, or take it slow with a lunch cruise on the Kaiapoi River Queen.”
