Motivate and move it

Here are some tips from Metropol to motivate you this winter:

Find an exercise partner or group

By exercising with a partner or group, there’s some social pressure to show up. Exercise buddies also provide social support, camaraderie and distraction from bad weather. If exercising at home, try joining a live class on Zoom or Instagram.

Make it a goal to get to the gym

Focus on getting dressed and showing up at the health club or in exercise session. Once you’ve changed into exercise gear, you’re half way there. Once you’re at the gym, or park, or in front of the television the problem of going or not is sorted.

Exercise during your lunchtime

Many people get frustrated when it’s dark in the morning and dark when they come home from work. The solution is to work out in the middle of the day, during the peak light hours. Taking a brisk walk at lunchtime provides fresh air in nature’s setting. If it’s too cold outside, walk around a mall or indoor shopping complex.

Swim in an indoor or heated swimming pool

Indoor swimming is a great cardio option. A heated pool will banish the cold and is an ideal place for a workout when the weather outside doesn’t co-operate. Many pools run exercises classes for various levels of fitness, so dive in.
