Christchurch’s bustling social calendar provides a compelling backdrop for the city’s informal culture club to congregate and convene. With some of the city’s best and brightest events, from art to music and everything in between, it’s time to join the culture club.

 

 

 

1. Wham Bam Author Jam

Wham Bam Author Jam is a charity book signing event held on 26 October at Papa Hou Stadium, 12 Hereford Street (part of the YMCA). With 24 authors from around New Zealand and Australia coming along, this event is all about supporting local. Take advantage of the opportunity to meet and chat with some of our incredible talent. 2. Miss Saigon

Miss Saigon is the heartbreaking story of a doomed romance between an American GI and an orphaned Vietnamese girl – two traumatised individuals, desperate for comfort, finding love in dreadful circumstances. Ten years after staging the New Zealand premiere, Showbiz Christchurch is mounting their second production. Opens 27 September. www.eventfinda.co.nz

3. A Night with Nick Dow

Christchurch singer-songwriter Nick Dow, a rising star in the music industry, performs a mélange of new original works from his forthcoming EP (recorded with Ben Edwards in Lyttelton), pieces from his album Layers, and his take on a classic or two. Thursday 26 September from 7:30pm to 8:30pm at the Great Hall, The Arts Centre. www.artscentre.org.nz
