Exhilarating Entertainment: Bread & Circus ­- World Buskers Festival


Get set for mind-blowing days and magic nights at the 30th anniversary celebration of Bread & Circus. The party returns to the streets of Ōtautahi Christchurch for some serious summer fun.

Originally known as The World Buskers Festival, the popular Christchurch event was created and founded in 1994 by Jodi Wright. It wasn’t long before the festival became known as one of the best street performance festivals in the world, hosting some of the greatest acrobatic, circus, street, and comedic acts.

Building on a wonderfully rich history, the 2023 festival will bring a new range of world-class twists, with elements that Cantabrians know and love. Get to know some of the hero acts for 2023:

BREAD & CIRCUS ARTISTS 2023

SPORT SUZIE
Sport Suzie aka Louise Kerr has been entertaining audiences all over the world with her hilarious and seriously wacky show. Suzie’s show is full of crazy stunts, from dumbbells flying in the air, wicked juggling, wacky weightlifting, hilarious audience participation and possibly the smallest bicycle you’ve ever seen.
Check out her sweet juggling routine all while squeezing her body through a tennis racket!

THE BIGGEST LITTLE CIRCUS
A long-time festival favourite with a whole lot of Kiwi charm and plenty of lycra.
The Biggest Little Circus is engaging, playful and completely outrageous. This distinctively Kiwi show is jam packed with high level circus skills, big laughs, and a soundtrack that slaps. You’ll see fire juggling, death defying antics, stunning aerial circus, fanny packs and human changing rooms! Performed above and below their shiny aerial rig, this massive show has toured all over Aotearoa and Canada.

THE SPACE COWBOY
Originally from Byron Bay, The Space Cowboy is a busker with many shocking talents. A natural performer, he started presenting his unusual skills at local markets at the age of eight.
One of the most innovative sword swallowers alive today, The Space Cowboy currently holds 55 Guinness World Records, the most ever held by an Australian.
His numerous television appearances including Officially Amazing, Outrageous Acts of Science and America’s Got Talent have solidified his fame as a sideshow celebrity.

THE PURPLE RABBIT
Co-written and starring internationally award-winning magician, Dom Chambers, The Purple Rabbit is where you’ll find your late-night fix of comedy, spectacle, and trickery.
A show described by Australian reviews as ‘flawless’, it features an ensemble cast including the ‘alcoholic Harry Potter’ of magic, an elusive ‘Unnamed Magician’, an eccentric Gold Medal beatbox-juggler, a red-hot fire manipulator and the world’s only Sexual Psychic-ologist.
