“Celebrating one of life’s happiest moments,” celebrant Justine Johansson found her calling after officiating her cousin’s wedding. “It made me appreciate the special and meaningful impact of being part of such a significant moment in people’s lives,” she says.
Of Ngāi Tahu descent, Justine travels across the motu to bring special moments to life from Canterbury to the West Coast, capturing the essence of each couple in her work. Traditions, religious elements, Te reo Māori or other language inclusions, or nothing at all, “I’m here to create a ceremony that reflects your unique relationship,” Justine explains. “Our journey together begins with a relaxed meeting to ensure we’re the perfect fit.
“This initial connection is important so that you can see me as part of your big day. From there, we’ll stay in touch, working closely through email to craft the ceremony and vows until they feel just right.”

- Don’t leave writing your vows until the last minute. This is your declaration of love, so take your time to think about and write a few versions. I can help with examples and editing.
- When applying for a license to get married, tick the option to get your marriage certificate posted automatically. This means that within a few weeks of your wedding day, your marriage certificate will come in the post so changing your name is easy because you have the documentation.
