Adoring restoring: Holliday and Sons

In a world where new and mass produced is just a few mouse clicks away, furniture that has faithfully marked the passing of centuries is filled with character, history and soul.

Just as friends who walk beside us through life’s phases become ever more precious, so our longstanding tables, chairs, and cabinets earn our love and loyalty, even as they develop the scars of their faithful service.

Passion for antiques drives the team at Holliday and Sons. Barry, Jason, and Clive are the latest iteration of a family business that has pursued restoration and conservation of beautiful furniture items for a staggering 178 years. “Devotees know that antique furniture is calming and grounding compared to modern and kitset styles,” says Jason. As well as holding a combined 120 years-worth of knowledge, they use natural products and avoid modern chemicals. “We strive to keep things authentic,” says Jason.

Their talent and collective know-how allows them to create new parts, while encyclopaedic familiarity with timbers, stains, and colours has been handed down through the family. Their full repair workshop hosts French polishing, furniture restoration, clock and porcelain repair, gilding, and more. “We have always followed a green and carbon neutral ethos, long before there were even descriptive words for this,” says Jason.
