What makes a pub famous? – The Famous Grouse Hotel

Lincoln has only ever been home to one pub. It’s stood in the same place for more than 140 years thanks to its feel-good nature.

“We are country hospitality,” says Shaughn McNabb, co-owner of The Famous Grouse Hotel. “We are just good people doing the job and doing it with a smile on our face.”

Together with co-owner and Crusaders legend Mitch Drummond, the pair continue the pub’s local legacy. “I worked here when I was in university before I bought the pub,” Shaughn says. The two local owners say it’s all about having fun.

Just 20 minutes from Christchurch, Lincoln has become a lifestyle hub offering shopping, eating, and education. This hospitality institution contributes to the thriving scene, offering a main bar, garden bar and separate restaurant, as well as modern nine-room accommodation. Shaughn says they are known in the Lincoln community as “the pub”, and have been since its establishment in 1915. Even more so especially since its rebuild post-earthquake. Think live music, big screen footy and entertaining competitions for the community served up alongside a delicious food and drink menu.
