Unique setting to treasure: Sign of the Takahe

Known as the gateway to the Port Hills, the eminent Sign of the Takahe is renowned for its cafe, bar, and restaurant where the best in classic European and Kiwi food and beverages are served in the deliciously baronial setting.

Offering casual and family friendly dining at affordable prices, this unique setting always delivers a timeless experience. The great news is, this heritage beauty has also returned to its role as a stunning functions venue.

All or part of the historic setting can be hired for weddings, celebrations or corporate planning days. Cool in summer with its opening windows, and cosy in winter, there is plenty of space for small and larger groups, and you won’t find a finer view in town than this one to inspire your blue sky thinking!

“We find that a lot of corporate groups love to come up for dinner to relax and luxuriate after a busy day,” says director Andrew Male, “The Sign of the Takahe was originally built as a rest house, so our team loves to continue the tradition of ensuring the ambiance is perfect and that guests are rested
and relaxed as they enjoy the incredible craftsmanship of
their surroundings.”

The team can tailor a food and drinks package to suit all preferences and dietary needs, and all you’ll need to do is soak up the atmosphere, the historic beauty and the views.

“We can serve 100 people upstairs for a formal seated dinner, or 150 for buffet meals and canapés upstairs and downstairs, and of course there is our gorgeous terrace and lawn area as well which takes us up to 250 guests,” says Andrew.

“When you see the treasure we have here, you won’t look any further.

“We can transform our venue to hold the most iconic parties or create the setting for an intimate gathering where you’ll feel as if our medieval-style manor house is your home,” says Andrew.
