Treat yourself

Often synonymous with romance and indulgence, chocolate is a delicacy enjoyed around the world.

Chocolate has a rich history, one that goes back some 4000 years, originating in Mexico where the first cacao plants were found. Early civilisations would use the cacao plant as a medicine during rituals. Throughout history, it was also praised as the ‘drink of the gods’ by the Mayans, and the Aztecs would go on to use cocoa beans as a form of currency. There is no doubt chocolate is one of the most enjoyed sweet treats, and has been for a very long time.

Try one of these suggestions next time you want a chocolate fix.

Fruit dipped
Chocolate covered strawberries are a popular choice, but other fruit is just as delicious. Try bananas, oranges, raspberries, and dates. Take inspiration from the classic fondue and cut up a bunch of different fruits, melt some chocolate in a bowl and use skewers to dip and enjoy.

Heated up
A warm cup of hot chocolate is especially nice this time of year, while curled up on the couch in the evenings. You can make your own by gently heating some dark chocolate with your milk of choice in a small pot. A touch of cinnamon is extra delicious.

In a chilli
Yes, that’s right, try adding some dark chocolate next time you are cooking a chilli. It may sound strange, but it will add a delicious depth of flavour and give all of the spices in the dish a boost, enriching the whole meal.
