Sweater vest revival

Often what is seen on the latest runways has been seen before in decades past.

One of the biggest comebacks recently is the sweater vest, so let’s take a look at the fashion history of this hot trend.

In the 1950s, sweater vests were the go-to layering item, more popular with men going for the ‘preppy’ look, and by the 1970s, they were hugely popular, for both men and women. But by the 90s, the vest had lost its edge. It became seen as an outdated, ‘grandpa-ish’ look. This was reflected in pop culture, with several ‘comically nerdy’ characters adopting the style – think Neville Longbottom, Raj Koothrappali, and Chandler Bing.

The latest, modern obsession with sweater vests unsurprisingly coincides with the growing trend of genderless fashion. However long this current wave sticks around is unsure – but we are definitely on board with the cosy, comfy trans-seasonal sweater vest moment.
