Shouting about timber
Winners! The VidaSpace Christchurch showroom wins the retail category at the 2025 Interior Awards, with Bates Joinery taking home the Master Joiners Award.
Located at 143 Victoria Street, the VidaSpace Christchurch showroom is an ode to interior timbers from European oak to burl. Divided into three distinct zones, Entice, Excite and Educate, the space sets out to inspire and inform about the endless possibilities of interior timber design.
The first South Island location for VidaSpace, this innovative showroom has just won the retail category at the recent 2025 Interior Awards. As well, Bates Joinery won the Master Joiners Award for its work on the space.

Designed in collaboration with Warren and Mahoney under the theme: A Storytelling EcoSystem: An Ode to Our Love of Timber, the space draws inspiration from the humble cabin and guides visitors on a sensory journey of the VidaSpace world. It is a shift away from traditional retail towards an experience-led model that places connection at the centre.

“Redefining the retail environment by grounding the experience in the essence of its product, this showroom is designed to engage the senses,” said judges. “Timber is celebrated through rich layering and refined detailing, with elements such as the sculptural desk and striking spliced log playing with weight and lightness, adding a sense of craftsmanship and intrigue. The result is a sensory space that invites genuine connection, elevating material selection to memorable storytelling.”
