Off and racing: The Golden Mile
Horse racing of both the harness and thoroughbred varieties is in the DNA of the Golden Mile Tavern in the heart of Templeton.
The name itself says it all – the Golden Mile is a horse race held in Bendigo, Victoria each year – and everywhere throughout the facility there are images of horses – even down to the design on the carpet.
So it’s no surprise that at Cup Week time there is extra excitement at the Golden Mile Tavern. The horse racing fraternity from around the country love to stay there, because of the proximity to both Riccarton and Addington race courses and because of the accommodation deals that are available and the excellent food in the restaurant. Templeton Village is also a big racing community and the locals really look forward to the special activities organised over the racing carnival week.
Everything you expect from being at the race courses themselves is available – a Lindauer lawn, live music, complimentary food, best dressed competitions and all the live action on the crystal clear big screen with its brand new high pixel projector. This is the opportunity to dress up and enjoy the great fun and entertainment that the Golden Mile does so well without having to cope with crowds or with searching for a car park.
