Long service builds loyalty: Made in the Shade

A wet Tuesday in October did not deter Jan from Nelson and her Christchurch friend Lorrie from making their seasonal pilgrimage to their favourite shopping destination.

“I’ve known Ali from when she was in the old Shades Arcade more than 20 years ago. Every year since then I make two shopping trips here to update my summer/winter wardrobe,” Jan says.

This is Jan’s first visit in two years to Made in the Shade, no thanks to Covid, and she is eager to explore the racks of newly arrived summer stock. There are the brightest greens and tangerines from Blackstone; zany patterns from Bittermoon; slimline jackets and flouncy skirts from Anne Mardell; linen tops (plain and patterned) from Naturals; organic Egyptian cotton from Optimum, and traffic-stopping trousers from Lisette and Vassali.

Enroute to the fitting rooms, Jan and Lorrie compliment Ali on yet another sensational season curation. Ali knows what her clients like and strives to deliver the goods. “That is why they return year after year. My strong customer loyalty is something I value deeply and never take for granted.”

With easy parking right outside, browse what’s hot for summer at Made in the Shade, 151a Colombo Street.
