Since opening in October 2019, Kin Bistro and Wine Bar has become a favourite of CBD dwellers and Ballantynes’ customers alike. A light and bright atrium-style space with calming greenery and a stunning feature wall, Kin is an oasis in the department store.

The team behind Kin source the freshest, local ingredients and match them with fabulous wines, beers, and spirits.

The modern, seasonal menu showcases some of the finest local food producers and gives classic dishes an inventive twist. The current menu is ultimate comfort, with a focus on beautiful, warming flavours and produce. Favourites include the roast pumpkin saffron risotto, the twice-cooked pork belly brioche burger, and the oxtail stew with crushed potato and parsnip chips.

If it’s a delicious brunch you are after, Kin offers a menu of tasty options, including shakshuka with goats cheese and dukkah, French toast with milk loaf, citrus curd, compote, and mascarpone, or for a winter warmer with a twist, the Kin porridge with a turmeric poached pear compote and cream. All the incredible jams, curds, and compotes are hand-made on-site, and special products like the Ballantynes honey is used in dishes.

Kin’s regular events are a fun excuse to get along to something different. A monthly ‘Gin Hour’ is held in the Kin Wine Bar, which is an opportunity to spend time with like-minded ginthusiasts and representatives from favourite gin brands. Every second month, Kin hosts the Ballantynes Breakfast Club, a speaker series where guests hear from a diverse and compelling group of leaders in their field, who share their unique business stories and life lessons. Past speakers have included Peri Drysdale from Untouched World and Kerry Jackson from MM Linen.

The beautiful location makes a wonderful venue for private events or corporate bookings, outside of Ballantynes’ shop hours. With capacity to comfortably seat 50 guests, the space can work to accommodate a range of different audiences. Best of all, custom menus are available to fit the occasion ensuring your guests will be blown away by the incredible food and drink.
