For the love of cheese: Barrys Bay Cheese

Rich in taste and heritage, Barrys Bay Cheese are well-known local cheesemakers with a history spanning 125 years.

The cheesemaking season has officially begun this month at Barrys Bay. The much-loved Canterbury business is busy making cheese five days a week, at their factory near Akaroa.

They’ve also been busy developing some fresh new packaging which will be hitting the shelves very soon. Spot it in your local store this summer!

With over a century of experience, it’s not surprising that their awards collection is growing by the year. At this year’s New Zealand Cheese awards, they earned gold medals for some of their most popular cheeses – Havarti, Peppered Havarti, Canterbury Red and Maasdam.

Barrys Bay have recently added an exciting Sheep Milk Pecorino to their collection. With a nutty, earthy and slightly fruity flavour, this cheese is a must-try.

Find it in their factory shop or online store, along with their full range of cheese. The website also offers a variety of gift boxes, perfect for any cheeselover or that hard to buy for person!

Their factory shop is open daily for cheese tastings, and if you visit in the morning you’ll be able to watch the cheesemakers in action through the store window. Or stop by their stall at the upcoming Akaroa French Festival this October for some great cheese deals!
