Enjoy the outdoors

Adding a pergola or a gazebo (pictured above) to your property is a terrific way to make the most of the outdoors at home. If you’re organised, there is still time to add one before the festive season starts.

As a permanent structure, both have multiple benefitss, will add value to your property, and make your outdoors more usable and versatile.

A gazebo is a shade structure typically octagonal in shape, and often with a domed roof and symmetrical columns. They can be customised to suit if built on-site, or, for a quick fix, bought ready-made.

With a closed roof and solid floor, outdoor gazebos extend your capacity to host a multitude of events, or as a place to relax in your own great outdoors.

Structurally, pergolas are less cluttered and much more elegant. They may have a full or retractable roof, although many pergolas offer only partial shade with intermittent beams laid spaciously across the top, and greenery growing over them.

The main difference between a pergola and a gazebo is the function of the roof.  A gazebo and a pavilion provide full coverage from the sun, while a pergola allows for sunlight to shine through its slatted roof. Typically, a pergola provides partial shelter and shade over a garden, pathway, or patio. Pergolas usually shelter seating areas or other landscaping elements such as walkways.

DID YOU KNOW?
Gazebos have been used for centuries as shelter from the elements, with some of the earliest known examples being traced back to the ancient Egyptians.
