Dine out in style: Eliza’s Manor

Eliza’s Manor, on Bealey Avenue, is now also home to an exciting new restaurant, Miro at the Manor.

One of Christchurch’s historical Victorian gems, Eliza’s Manor was recently purchased by well-known restaurateurs Francesca Voza and James Sumner, who opened the new restaurant there in early October.

Since arriving in New Zealand in 2010, Francesca and husband James have spread their passion for food and hospitality across the South Island, starting with a successful pizza food truck, and expanding to open and run multiple restaurants and bars.

They operate Miro out of one of Christchurch’s other historic gems, a terracotta-pink art deco building, and now its new offshoot Miro at the Manor.
Francesca says the success of Miro, blending the unique atmosphere of a bygone era with a sensational modern seasonal menu, encouraged the new venture, created to preserve, amplify and share the spirit of Eliza’s Manor.

With eight guest rooms, and in-house dining, Eliza’s Manor successfully blends past with present. Heading the restaurant teams are Executive Chef Liam Summers, Head Chef Cameron Woodhouse, and Head Chef at Miro, Eeva Torvinen. Visit www.elizas.co.nz

Liam Summers
Executive chef of Eliza’s Manor and Miro.

Born and raised in Christchurch, Liam comes from an art, garden and food focused family. Prior to Miro, he was sous chef at Pegasus Bay Winery for five years.
He loves the produce Canterbury has to offer and how Christchurch is developing its own food scene. “The people in Canterbury are now so open to tasting different flavours and produce, as a chef it’s so great to see.”

Cameron Woodhouse
Head Chef Eliza’s Manor.

Cameron’s career began studying catering in Scotland where he worked in luxury hotels as a pastry chef, until a move to Queenstown in 2015. He enjoys experimenting with unusual flavour combinations and ingredients with a strong influence to British fine dining.
He previously worked at Inati, with a focus on modern European-style food, working closely with the changing seasons.

Eeva Torvinen
Head Chef, Miro.

Originally from Finland, Eeva has gathered 13 years of culinary experience working from French-style bistros to Scandinavian fine dining.
She came to New Zealand at the beginning of 2016 and has spent the past three years as a head chef at The Monday Room in Christchurch. Eeva is passionate about food, and her cooking style is strongly influenced by her Finnish roots.
