Constructive design collaborations

Using the wider Canterbury/Otago regions as their professional canvas, the newly established architectural practice, Figure & Ground (formerly Connell Architecture) and Petrie Construction work in collaboration to provide excellence in design and construction.

Connell Architecture won two Highly Commended awards for Residential New Homes in Ngahere Street at the recent Architectural Designers New Zealand Awards. Both homes are generously sized, exuding executive, inner city living, without compromising on privacy, security, quality, interior comfort or outdoor enjoyment.

3 Ngahere Street

3 Ngahere Street has a very minimalist street appearance, featuring a simple gable form with strong horizontal and vertical planes. The timberwork detailing is highlighted with different lines and textures in light coloured cedar. This detailing is continued indoors with a neutral palette.

3A Ngahere Street also features clean architectural lines with a mix of cedar, bluestone, and plaster panels. Large overhangs and simple form, balance out the floor to ceiling glazing throughout. The glazing is a key feature, which maximises light, as well as making the most of the Riccarton Bush views.

The vivid designs and spatial interpretation of Sam Connell’s architecture, distinctly merges uncluttered style with family living functionality, and as such, requires the balance of masterful building and insightful craftsmanship. Petrie Construction offers this synergistic balance.

With a Bachelor of Architectural Design, owner-builder Sam Petrie and his team, together with business partner Honor Petrie, are specialists in renovations, new builds and multi-dwelling developments. With a strong community ethos, this intimate, exceptionally run and passionate team stay industry relevant, by continuing to deliver top quality builds and maintaining strong, successful contractor/supplier relationships.

This team speak the language of design in a building format that delivers a winning end product. Here’s to quality homes and the structural integrity that great designs are built upon.
