Artistic diversity: The Christchurch Art Show

Pablo Picasso once said that “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”. Very soon it will be the chance for us in Christchurch to wash away everyday cares through the beauty of art because the Christchurch Art Show is back for its 10th year.

During the weekend of 17 – 19 March In the wonderful airy spaces of the Te Pae Convention Centre, thousands of original works from some 120 artists from all over New Zealand will be on display. Diversity is the key as every style of contemporary art from painting and sculpture to mixed media, ceramics and textiles will be featured. All items, apart from sculptures, sell in a range from $20 – $10,000.
This is indeed “Art for Everyone.” What is so special and different about this show is that the artists are there in person to meet with the public, to talk about their works, their inspiration and how they were created. The interaction with the public is not something solitary artists usually do and it is a great incentive for them to be part of the show.
