Millions of eyes are on Europe, and the Olympic Games in Paris, as the world’s top athletes compete for gold, silver and bronze glory.

Metallics are also prominent in European design trends currently, especially gold, as accents, and stunning focal pieces.

One of Europe’s top breeding grounds for design ideas and creativity is the annual Salone Internazionale del Mobile, held in Milan each April. Many Kiwi business owners and designers visit the trade fair annually, for inspiration from the wide range of furnishing products.

Many prototypes and innovations in terms of furnishings, domestic spaces and lifestyles are launched, exploring how the way we live is changing and, consequently, home living and furnishing. Top trends in 2024 included metallics, featuring shiny aluminium, chrome, stainless steel, gold, and reflective surfaces, all things marble, and unique conversation pieces.

Here are some ideas, based on luxurious European trends. You might have to look hard to find a gold bath, but high-end companies can order them in from overseas, and can also arrange colour customisation.
