Light up your night
Outdoor lighting is an important aspect of overall design, and also safety.
The right fixtures or features can add ambiance, while also providing functional lighting for use and safety purposes. It can illuminate walkways, outdoor dining rooms, patios, pools, and structures such as pergolas.
Pools, spas, and steps are key areas to illuminate for safety reasons. Highlighting architectural features, outdoor rooms, and feature plants also helps to add character. Purpose will dictate what type of lighting and fixture is needed.
Some may be permanently installed, others decorative for special occasions.
If necessary, hire a registered electrician to install them.
Small spaces:
Try downlights such as illustrated here for a permanent fix, or create a wow factor for special occasions. Light them up with a string of small bulbs or fairy lights, either in rows, or crisscrossed. The intensity of illumination is determined by the bulbs you choose and the number of lights you use.
Wall sconces:
Permanent sconces provide illumination and décor, and are good for feature walls, and home entrances, and also for outdoor kitchens and dining areas. Look for cylinder lights that cast upward and downward beams of light.
Pool lighting:
Consider having LED lights installed underwater if you are having a pool built.
They will add to its allure, and make it more easily visible for safety purposes.
