Precious pieces protected: Commonwealth Vault

Though current Canterbury burglary statistics may make for sobering reading, there is an easy solution to protect family valuables, and it isn’t the home safe.

All too often today’s burglar will remove the home safe entirely from the wall rather than waste time wrestling with combinations.
The soundest solution is a purpose-built vault, such as Commonwealth Vault.

This state-of-the-art facility is protected by tiers of enhanced security measures, such as biometric scanning, and 24/7 remote surveillance.
The safe deposit boxes are also wrapped in layers of security, making the facility virtually impregnable.
Christchurch Branch Manager Kent Galpin advises that with precious metals, such as gold and silver, if stolen from a home safe (which are rarely recovered) there is no insurance.

“The good news is, if people have a vault security box, such as provided here, they can be insured,” Kent says.
Another service available is a short-term travel box, which means people can go away on holiday, confident their most cherished and often irreplaceable valuables are safely stored until their return.

Commonwealth Vault is uniquely located in Christchurch’s CBD at 152 Oxford Terrace, a destination precinct of the city, which is now more famously known as The Terrace. The historically significant building was designed by one of Christchurch’s most celebrated architects, Cecil Wood, and was completed in 1925 for the Public Trust.

It is one of the few heritage buildings to survive the Christchurch earthquakes. Now fully earthquake strengthened and restored, Commonwealth Vault is proud to hold space within its grand walls.
