How to maximise what you get out of the Canterbury Home Show from 16 to 18 October at Wolfbrook Arena.

1. Secure your tickets
Get your free tickets at canterburyhomeshow.co.nz.
Then, schedule your arrival around the best times. The Show is open from 10am to 5pm daily; foot traffic is heavy in the morning and tapers off in the afternoon. From 1pm, foot traffic is medium, and light by 3 to 4pm.

2. Study the exhibitor directory
With more than 150 renovating, building and decorating brands, experts and suppliers, it’s a good idea to plan who you’re going to see and talk to, just before you go. Visit canterburyhomeshow.co.nz and click ‘exhibitor directory’ in the top panel to browse all the exhibitors and make a list of which ones you want to target.

3. Schedule in seminars
The daily seminar series is the destination for the latest home renovating, building, decorating, building and home improvement trends, ideas, tips and advice. Hosted by a range of industry experts, presenters will share their experience and know-how to give you the right advice, inspiration, ideas and knowledge to complete your next project. Pick some seminars relevant to your next home improvement project and prepare questions for the experts. See the facing page for the seminar programme.

4. Take breaks
Two special spaces inside the Canterbury Home Show offer an enjoyable pause from any home improvement information overload. Enjoy the ‘pantry’ (a dedicated food and beverage area brimming with culinary treasures and stallholders) and The Marketplace (a space filled with local talent and small businesses selling handmade goods and thoughtful gifts).

5. Visit Sunday’s family fun day
With extra free entertainment – workshops, face painting, colouring competitions – Sunday is the day to go if you’re taking your little ones with you.

6. Divide your efforts between both days
You don’t need to cram everything in on one day. Instead, pace yourself and your efforts between both Saturday and Sunday. Consider tackling one project or task per day: indoor projects on Saturday, outdoor projects on Sunday.
