Winter property maintenance: Tradie tips to protect your home: MR Property Services

As winter approaches, preparing your home for colder months is crucial.

Strong winds, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures can test your property’s integrity, making regular maintenance vital for preventing damage and protecting your home’s value.

Matt Cossey, owner of MR Property Services, says that regular upkeep can prevent significant damage, reduce repair costs, and safeguard the value of your home. He recommends focusing on the following four areas.

Start with the roof. Gutters should be cleaned and roof penetrations properly sealed to prevent water leaks. “If nails or screws have popped up, they need to be fastened back down to stop water seeping in,” Matt says.

Checking the cladding to ensure it’s weather-tight. Inspect for holes, and for any rot around windows or on areas where bushes are pressing against the house.
Inside, homeowners should check for leaks in the kitchen and bathroom, ensuring seals around showers, sinks, and dishwashers are intact to prevent water damage.

Deal with general wear and tear, such as filling in dings and fixing loose handles. The best news is that all of this and more can be done by Matt and his team.

“We’re more than just builders, painters, and plasterers. We’re your property maintenance team, here to take the headache of upkeep off your hands,” says Matt.
