Where community comes together: The Sterling
Walk into this friendly Kaiapoi café, and you’re greeted by warmth before anything else. Not just the temperature – though the café is beautifully heated – but the kind of warmth that comes from genuine welcome.
Behind the counter, friendly baristas are chatting with regulars, laughing at inside jokes, remembering orders without being asked. The cabinet beside them is loaded with tempting sweet treats that catch your eye and delicious snack options like the iconic cheese roll, salad of the day, protein-packed quiche, and more to tantallise your tastebuds.
The chef works her magic in the kitchen, crafting dishes you won’t be able to resist. Groups of new and long-time friends sit at tables throughout the space, deep in conversation over flat whites and brunch plates.

Through the windows, see The Sterling, Kaiapoi, an award-winning retirement village in North Canterbury. Residents play croquet on the lawn, their game unfolding at a leisurely pace that feels wonderfully at odds with the rest of the world’s rush.
This is Three Streams Café, tucked into the heart of the village. Despite its location, the café is open to everyone, bringing people of all generations together for meaningful connections and great coffee.

LOCAL SUCCESS STORY
The name Three Streams tells a local story. Growing up in Kaiapoi, Michelle Allan (now The Sterling, Kaiapoi’s sales manager) and her friends would gather where three waterways meet: Silver Stream, Kaiapoi River, and Cust River. It was their spot, and they would say, “Meet you at three streams.” Fast forward to today, and the café sits close to that same serene setting. When Michelle told residents the story behind the name, something clicked. Here was a café aimed at bringing people together, named after a place that had been doing exactly that for years.
“Three Streams Café is a place where people naturally come together,” says Suzi Cadigan, The Sterling, Kaiapoi’s Village general manager. “It’s wonderful to see residents and the wider Kaiapoi community enjoying good coffee, conversation, and connection – exactly what this space was created for. Seeing different generations mix, and friendships form, makes it feel truly alive.”

Like the three waterways it was inspired by, this café is where communities naturally converge. Friends catching up. Regulars and newcomers. Generations mixing over shared tables and good conversation. Let connection guide your next coffee catch-up – you know where to go.
Open Monday to Friday at 300 Island Road, Kaiapoi, the team is building something special; one coffee and one conversation at a time. Meet you at Three Streams.
