Top South Island dog-friendly campsites


Marlborough: Nikau Cove Campsite
Located in the breath-taking Marlborough Sounds in a sheltered bay not far from the Bay of Many Coves, Nikau Cove offers six non-powered sites. You will need a permit to bring your dog here which is readily obtainable via the DOC office.

West coast: Franz-Josef Top 10 Holiday Park
This campsite is a short distance from the Waiho River. You can also visit the glaciers in the Southern Alps, walk through the rainforests and enjoy the very best that the wild coastline has to offer.

Canterbury: Lake Taylor Campsite
Nestled within Lake Sumner National Park, escape the concrete jungle and immerse yourself in the stunning natural setting that is Lake Taylor. Enjoy wide open green spaces flanked by spectacular mountain ranges while camping right on the lake’s shoreline at this river campground.

Otago: Moeraki Boulders Holiday Park
If you book a powered or unpowered camping site you can bring your dog here and experience camping by the sea, view dolphins and penguins nearby and of course the amazing Moeraki Boulders.

Southland: Mavora Lakes Campsite
Situated next to the scenic Mavora Lakes, this dog-friendly camping ground is made for those who plan to go fishing and biking in the area and are keen to bring their pup along for the fun.
