The power of women: PowerOn

Of late we have been hearing a great deal in the media about the need to encourage more women to look at a trade as a viable career option.

An increase in gender diversity can only be a positive thing for traditionally male-dominated industries. It brings different perspectives to a workplace, can change outdated cultures for the better, and apparently, even increase productivity.

Bri Scott (pictured) is a shining example of what a woman can achieve in a trade. Not long after she completed her electrical apprenticeship she set up her own company – PowerOn. Now, managing both permanent staff and contractors, she is finding that being a woman electrician really resonates with many customers.

“They say that my team and I actually listen, and want to find ways to give them what they are asking for, even if that involves a bit of problem solving,” says Bri. “I find that the most satisfying aspect of my work.”

PowerOn covers the full range of customers’ electrical needs. “We specialise in new build and renovation wiring, alterations, including spa and electric vehicle chargers, as well as in heat pump installation and CCTV and security alarm systems. We also carry out electrical safety inspections and circuit upgrades and advise on energy-efficient lighting solutions. Recently we have branched into the installation of solar systems. It’s really exciting being at the forefront of the developing technology in our industry.”
