Sustainable hair care: Holistic Hair
An eco-savvy Auckland-based haircare company is minimising its ecological footprint, one recyclable bottle, and hair treatment at a time.
Inspiring other businesses to exemplify consumer needs with environmental responsibility, Holistic Hair co-owners Nicky and Jodene, pictured, have since 2015 aligned their brand focus to establish a sustainability-based company ethos.
In recent years, the global movement towards sustainability has gained significant momentum, including in the haircare industry. Since 2021, Holistic Hair has used bottles made from 100% recycled plastic, and is continuing along the same ethically sound business practice by currently testing a new bottle range made from ‘PP plastic’, a material recyclable in New Zealand, and many other countries too.
“The dynamic impact of these innovative packaging solutions are significant and far reaching, reducing unnecessary reliance on virgin plastics, encouraging up-cycling and responsible recycling, thus decreasing landfill build-up,” says Nicky.
Holistic Hair’s successful collaboration with CleanHub, a leading organisation dedicated to plastic waste recycling, has earned a prestigious Plastic Neutral Plus certification. Elevating its commitment to ethically conscious business practices, the company also aims to obtain B CORP and vegan certifications, to further align their values with socially and environmentally responsible businesses. “This will give our customers the chance to make informed choices about the products they use,” says Jodene.
