What visions does the word ‘festival’ evoke? Sun. Warmth. Laughter. Flavour. Music. Joy.

That’s all to come as the summer festival season in Christchurch kicks off in Hagley Park.

Celebrating its fifteenth year, the South Island Wine & Food Festival on Saturday 6 December from 11.30am to 7pm has something for everyone – whether you’re a wine lover, a foodie, a music fan, or just looking for a fun way to spend a summer’s day. It’s a staple of the annual calendar – an opportunity to take pride in what the South Island offers the beverage and cuisine scene.

Showcasing premium South Island wine, seasonal cuisine and live Kiwi music in the welcoming local setting of our special central city park, every detail of this festival reflects authenticity, sustainability and creativity. Expert winemakers, chefs, musicians and artisans share their craft. Over the years, the festival has become a true summer staple, bringing the community together for a day that lingers long after the last glass of delicious wine is consumed.

Food and beverage
Forty wineries will show the very best of the South Island’s vineyards – from Central Otago pinot noirs to crisp Marlborough sauvignon blancs and everything in between. Speak with the winemakers yourself and discover the passion and stories behind each pour. The food offering is next level with a range of food vendors and restaurants including Scoundrel, Gatherings, Brewda, Smoke n Barrel, Inati, Odeon, Strawberry Fare, Indian Roots and Ma Maison all creating unique dishes especially for the festival.

Festival features
The festival’s Cooking Theatre is a must-visit for food fanatics, featuring live demonstrations from top chefs who share tips, tricks and seasonal recipes. Meanwhile, the Wine Seminar Lounge offers an intimate setting to meet winemakers and taste premium South Island wines – perfect for aficionados and curious newcomers.

Music lineup
Music really brings the festival to life – it’s the perfect summer soundtrack to a day spent eating, sipping, and celebrating. Featured artists include Daily J, Cassie Henderson, Nathan Haines and Caitlin. There is also a DJ set from Craig Shaw and Hauswerk.
