What inspires the style of South Canterbury’s most fashionable ladies? Essence’s Larnya Bourdot took to the streets and played paparazzo to locals that caught her eye.

My style is simple and sophisticated with a bit of edge. I love a good matching ensemble; Briarwood do that well.

Getting dressed is easy when you have a matching outfit, you look polished from the get go. It’s comfy which is so important, then all you need to concentrate on is footwear, whether you want to go casual or dressy for the day.

In the colder months, I like to throw on a vest or a cardigan, and nothing beats a long-tailored coat to keep you warm.

I focus on what feels the most authentically ‘me’.

My style is mood dependant and eclectic. I pull different colours and silhouettes based on how I’m feeling about myself. I add structure if I’m lacking confidence, or colours, textures and prints if I’m at peace. I mix ‘me-made’ and second hand pieces everyday.

I’ve made a few long sleeve tops in different colours and fabric weights to wear under my summer dresses all year and usually wear a jacket or coat. Often I’m wearing merino tights under my skirts and pants in winter.

I would describe my fashion as sustainable, I have a love of thrifting and circular ‘luxury’. Stop saving your most loved items for ‘special occasions’, wear the fun stuff often!

I adapt for colder weather with a range of wool coats that I’ve collected over the years, and love a good merino skivvy.

I’m wearing a Kate Sylvester leather dress, Caitlin Crisp wool jacket, Beau Coop boots, and Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses.

Never be basic! If people are going to look, give them something worth staring at. I’ve had a lifelong style crush on Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw in Sex And The City, so I believe the sidewalk is a runway.

I’m wearing a Zimmermann dress, Valentino boots, with a hot pink wool tote pulling it all together.

In winter, I’ll layer up in merino with a cardigan, scarf and coat, because looking expensive is non-negotiable.
