Skirting the trend
Fashionistas often keep an eye on American and European trends.
Hot news from the American fashion leaders such as Prada and Bottega Veneta is that the autumn/winter season has shown a return to more voluminous A-line skirts, and floor-sweeping maxis.
Fashion is cyclical – roughly every seven years – so skirts will always be a wardrobe staple in some shape or form. They’ve dropped to new lengths for autumn/winter with a return to maxis, full of movement and pattern. Think denim, checks and tweeds, appliqued with flowers, finished with a bow, formal and casual.
Denim skirts are always in the fashion mix, and one 2023 trend is patchwork denim. Reconstructed and patchwork denim designs are reminiscent of the late 1990s and early 2000s, and now they’re back in force. The great thing about a denim skirt is that it easily integrates into wardrobes, much the same as a pair of jeans.

Men wearing skirts is commonplace in countries including Fiji, Myanmar and Bhutan.
