RE:START

Fifteen years after the RE:START temporary container mall became part of Hummingbird Coffee’s story, the coffee roaster is featuring Christchurch artist Nathan Ingram’s famous work on its packaging.

Following the earthquakes in 2011, Hummingbird Coffee opened a pop-up cafe in the RE:START container mall and created its RE:START coffee blend, with 30 cents from every 200g pack sold going towards The Court Theatre rebuild. Over two years, the initiative contributed $100,000 to The Court Theatre.

Fifteen years on and as part of the brand’s new It’s Giving Art campaign, RE:START has a new look, bringing prominent Christchurch artist Nathan Ingram’s bold public work originally created across a central city basketball court, onto the pack. Nathan’s own conection to that chapter of Christchurch’s history is losing the studio from which he ran his clothing brand, which led him towards street and public art.

Now, the work moves from the streets of Christchurch onto Hummingbird Coffee’s limited-edition RE:START pack.

The It’s Giving Art campaign builds on their partnership with The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi and includes funding a dedicated Springboard Award for an early-career Christchurch artist. The limited-edition Hummingbird RE:START pack is on shelves now.
