Relax in your bach

A home away from home can be just as cosy and inviting as your usual dwelling, or even more so.

Holiday homes or baches are a place to relax away from it all, and often their interior décor reflects that. After all, no one wants to go on holiday and spend all their time doing housework. The occasional weekend getting the place up to scratch, and a few low maintenance fittings and furnishings will work wonders, and allow you to chill out the rest of the time.

Here are some suggestions:
1. Install an outdoor shower, especially if you have a beachside bach.
It’s easy enough to find a private spot outside, and the shower can be run off existing plumbing. A wash down before heading indoors after a day at the beach will help avoid sand inside.
2. Insect screens are a great idea if you live near the bush. Many can be retro-fitted to doors and windows, and some are designed to roll up and down around verandahs. They’re an alternative to citronella candles and copious quantities of insect repellent.
3. Update the décor with throws, cushions and floor rugs. White, cream and hues of blue will help create a beachy feel, or go for green and a jungle theme to bring the outdoors in.
