Professional plumbing solutions: R J Crouch

Problem solvers are who you go to when you require action.

When you need a particular service it pays to think about whether that person embodies these problem solving traits.

-Decisive when taking action
-Competitive to achieve top results
-Results-oriented for fast fixes.

Claire & Tom Crouch

Problem solver is the overarching descriptor that Tom Crouch, of R J Crouch Plumbing, uses to describe himself and his company’s ethos. Along with partner Claire, an experienced executive assistant, he is taking the reins of the plumbing business that his father, Richard, started 40 years ago.

“I love the industry but also love being able to fix problems where others have failed. We don’t get called because the client wants to tell us how happy they are,” he laughs. “They call us because they have a problem.”

Embracing the problem solving approach, Tom and Claire believe in evolving their business for continued success.

“Systems are very important,” says Claire. “We have incorporated job management systems Tradify along with Micos Tradedoor and Xero. You have to have efficient systems in place to properly meet the needs and standards that our clients expect.”

The groundwork for the new era of R J Crouch Ltd was laid by Tom (pictured) years ago, when he headed overseas in 2006 as soon as he finished his apprenticeship.

“I chose Ireland and the UK, as I needed to step out of dad’s shadow and learn other ways of doing things.”

Gaining experience in areas such as maintenance gave Tom another perspective and added to his skills. From there he moved to Canberra where he was the sole employee in the ACT state for Atlantic Plumbing Services.

Problem solving skills at the fore, Tom focused on growing his branch and developed a lot of key clients in the region. From there it was off to the head office in Sydney.

“The company had 40 maintenance vehicles and myself and one other guy oversaw the day-to-day operations of these plumbers. I learnt so much about people management and I was just 26,” he recalls.

After a decade cutting his teeth in the big, wide world Tom returned to New Zealand with the goal of running the family plumbing business.

“From that point on we have been growing R J Crouch to what we are today. I have taken what I have learnt overseas and combined it with the long-standing ethos of the company.”

The business isn’t the only thing growing. “Claire has a passion for plants and the office is a much greener place,” Tom laughs. If you have a plumbing problem call the problem solver Tom on 027 535 5163 or email admin@rjcrouch.co.nz
