Pet-friendly places

Christchurch is a great place for pets and pet owners, with lots of animal-friendly options in and around the city. Whether you are after exercise, wining and dining or a night away, you are sure to find a few favourite spots to visit with your furry pal.

Dog friendly parks

Dog parks are a great option for exercising your dog, as they can freely roam off the leash while mingling with other pooches. Bexley Reserve, Red Zone, Horseshoe Lake, Rawhiti Reserve, Styx Mill, Victoria Park, Radley Park, Halswell Quarry, and Bottle Lake Forest are all options in and around Christchurch. Other parks may have restrictions and rules, especially about dogs being on leashes, so be sure to check first.

Dining

Heading out for brunch, lunch, dinner, or drinks and don’t want to leave your pampered pet at home? Luckily for you, there are lots of Christchurch eateries that love having four-legged friends join their owners for social catchups. A quick search of the café or restaurant will let you know if they are pet friendly, usually the ones with a courtyard or spacious outdoor area will be more lenient with pets coming along.

Accomodation

If you are after some local accommodation, there are many pet-friendly stays to make your trip that much easier. While hotels and motels can be harder to find, there are plenty of Air BnB or privately owned options. Take a look at the site Pets Can Come Too, for a great guide to booking accommodation you can bring your pet to around the country.
