Nourish your body and soul: Saket Indian Restaurant

Indian cuisine is a firm favourite here in Christchurch.

The popularity of Indian restaurants and takeaways shows no signs of slowing down, with standout restaurants going from strength
to strength.

A case in point is the popular Saket Indian Restaurant. A well-known name in Christchurch’s culinary scene, Saket recently opened its third location in Opawa. This new establishment joins existing restaurants in Prebbleton and St Albans. Whatever the magic formula is, owner Harish Chander has found it.

What’s the secret of Saket’s success? Let’s start with the incredible food. From aromatic curries and sizzling tandoori dishes to freshly baked naan and delicious biryanis, the food at Saket Indian Restaurants pays homage to the best of authentic North Indian cuisine, all made with love and care.

The name ‘Saket’ is derived from Sanskrit, meaning ‘a place where God resides’, says Harish, reflecting the commitment to serving food that nourishes both body and soul.

“Our menu showcases North Indian flavours, crafted using traditional cooking methods and authentic spices,” Harish says. Signature dishes and best sellers include the Saket chicken – a chef’s special featuring tender chicken in a creamy vegetable gravy – and the lamb supreme, cooked with ginger, garlic, and finished with coconut cream. “I created this to be a very special dish,” says Harish. “It must be tasted to be believed.”

Popular choices like butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and daal makhani have garnered praise for their depth of flavour and authenticity. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available, ensuring something for all diners.

With the addition of the Opawa location, Saket continues to offer a warm ambience and a culinary journey through India’s diverse flavours. Whether dining in or ordering takeaway, guests can expect a meal that embodies tradition, taste, and hospitality.
