Making it eco-friendly
As the climate crisis comes into sharper focus each year, many individuals consider their choices with a view to making a difference. By Lynda Papesch.
Your beauty routine one area where what you buy, how often you buy, and how you use your beauty products actually counts. Buying known, trusted brands, means beauty and make up products are more likely to be used up, rather than end up in landfill. Even better, many such brands offer refills which means less packaging. Beauticians and beauty care brands offer plenty of eco-friendly alternatives so make it a point to consider earth care as well as beauty care.
Tips to make your beauty routine more eco-friendly:
- Use up what you have: An important first step to a more eco-friendly beauty routine is to empty your existing product containers before you buy a replacement. If there’s something you don’t want or like, consider giving it to someone who
will use it. - Buy more ethically, environmentally-friendly, products: Look for products with packaging that is compostable, recyclable, refillable, or reusable. Better yet, products that have no packaging.
- Reduce consumption where possible: When buying replacement products, think about how sustainable they are. Additionally, opt for double-duty products, such as a blush that can also be used on your lips, and tinted moisturiser. Avoid single-use products, such as makeup wipes.
- Reuse and refill: More companies are embracing refillable versions of skin, makeup, and hair-care products, so make the most of it. Buy essentials for instance individual or triple eye shadow colours rather than a big palette with numerous shades you won’t use.
- Make your bathroom more eco-friendly: Use what you have and then replace those items with reusable alternatives, such as stainless steel razors, soap and shampoo bars, and menstrual panties and cups.
