Lounging around in style

Pool-side, beach-side, resort-side, lounging chairs are a must-have accessory.

Sun loungers, as they are often referred to, are designed to be comfortable, so you can relax and unwind while catching a dose of Vitamin D. Features usually include adjustable backrests, padded cushions, and ergonomic shapes.

Many offer several reclining positions, making them suitable to lie down for a snooze, or sit up and read a book or magazine. Some include wheels for easy manoeuvring and cup holders to keep your favourite drink within touching distance.

These days there are numerous options, if you shop around. When deciding what style to buy, consider where it will be placed, and also the architectural style of its surroundings.

From single upright styles, to full-length loungers, the extensive range includes deep seating sectional options that can be configured into single or double daybeds, and chaises. Teak is a popular lounger material, along with moulded plastic, wicker, and stainless steel.
Space may dictate size, although sun beds come in stackable options too.

Poolside isn’t always centre stage either. Loungers can be set up anywhere, and a small private space in the garden might be your preferred place to relax.

Did you know?
The sun lounger was designed in 1966 for Florence Knoll, who was living near the ocean and wanted outdoor furniture that would withstand the elements. They’ve been a staple in pool areas and gardens for more than 50 years, testament to the continued appeal of this timeless piece.
