Life is a cabaret

Described as a unique floorshow experience of song, dance and cirque acts, mixed with a sprinkle of delightful tongue-in-cheek items, Cabaret Einhundert (the word Einhundert translates to 100) celebrates 100 years of music, spanning eras from the 20s and 30s through to today.

By the Silhouette Academy on June 18 and 19, it promises to be a show packed with energy, fabulous costumes and unforgettable music.
Kate Limuloa of Silhouette Studios NZ says that cabaret is rooted in French and German culture. “It’s that strong Western-European influence that makes for such a fantastic theatre experience.”

Kate is the Director for Einhundert, which comprises 30 performers, from ages 10 to 18. “There is lots of partnering work due to a strong male representation. It is a visual feast, but also a feast for all the senses.”

Kate may be referring to the fact that the audience can enjoy charcuterie style platters throughout the show, while sipping their favourite tipple.

“The food is included in the ticket price, while beverages are BYO, so audiences can sit back, relax and feel that distinctive atmosphere only found in an authentic cabaret floorshow.”

The Silhouette Academy Training Programme was launched in 2021 with its aim to provide a safe environment for young dancers to train in performance for the corporate sector. “From here, they can explore a career working in the business world, cruise ships or acrobatic performance, such as Cirque du Soleil,” Kate explains.

“I love the idea of people being aware of this programme – to be able to see what our students are doing.

This is the only programme of its kind in New Zealand, and I love passing on what I have learnt to enable my students to forge artistically rewarding careers in performance.”
