Let them eat cake: Twisted Flour and Sugar Merchants

Choosing your wedding cake will be a joyous time.

The showroom is sunny and inviting, and the wedding cake-makers are filled with infectious enthusiasm, revelling in what they do. When you work with these amazing artists, your cake can’t help but be unique and stunningly creative.

At Twisted Flour and Sugar Merchants, everything is extraordinary. “Weddings can be stressful, but we insist that designing and creating your cake is fun and thrilling,” says Kate Podmore, one half of the incredibly talented mother and daughter duo. “We find out what our couples want their day to look and feel like, what they do, how they met, and their interests.”

“Don’t expect stock standard. We are different, we are out there,” says Sally Holt. “Our name says it all, we like to have fun with our couples.” The pair are quietly chuffed that the era of restraint and minimalism is now a bit old hat. “If you tend to follow the crowd, we will discover the real you and help you dare to be different,” says Kate.

It doesn’t mean you can’t have an all-white cake though.

“Some of our most gorgeous cakes are white, plus we have imaginative ways of arranging stunning white flower displays,” says Kate, “and we are noticing older styles making a comeback. The Lambeth style which is almost Victorian and hasn’t been around for years is complete understated elegance.”

There is no such thing as a typical Twisted Flour and Sugar client. “We work with very young brides to more mature couples, sometimes on their second or third marriage,” says Sally. “It’s all about your dream cake, and us making it a reality.”
