How to: Smoky eye
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and a neutral smoky eye is the perfect go-to no matter the event, outfit or eye colour.
A smoky eye can be as complicated or as simple as you want to make it, but if your attempts tend to end in frustration, never fear. Here is a step-by-step guide to achieving
a basic, but beautiful smoky eye look.
- Blend a matte, mid-tone neutral shade all over your eyelid to create your base.
- With a fluffy brush, apply a matte, dark-tone shadow to the outer corners of your eyes, packing the colour at your lash line and then blending it upward and outward, until seamless.
- Sketch a dark pencil eyeliner along your top and bottom lash lines, then take a pencil brush and blend it out.
- Using the same pencil brush, gently blend the same dark eyeshadow from step two across your eyeliner to soften any harsh edges.
- If you prefer a matte look, stop here. If you want a little glow, take a clean small brush or your ring finger and press a light shimmery shade into the inner corners of your eyes. Finish with mascara and top it off with some false lashes for added drama.
