Filled with gratitude: Mayor Phil Mauger
From sport games and concerts to further investment in the CBD, the city’s grandest project is complete.
Depending on when you’re reading this, we’re only days away from the first event at One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha.
I can’t wait to see it filled to the rafters with people getting ready to watch a game of footy or dance the night away.
This is the biggest construction project ever undertaken by the Council and I was thrilled to see it formally opened last month. I am so proud of Council staff and the amazing work they have done to get this built on time and within budget.
So many people across the city have been closely following the progress, and it’s certainly been a hot topic at barbecues and social events over the last few years.
Seeing the structure rise, piece by piece, taking its place in the city skyline has been so exciting to see and we’ve all been anticipating the artists and sporting events that will be attracted to our city.
Christchurch has a real sense of momentum about it, and this project is a huge part of that.
It’s already contributing to further investment and development and is a key part of cementing Christchurch as the sporting and cultural capital of New Zealand.
I want to thank everyone who has played a part in bringing this incredible venue to life.
Make sure you get yourself down there as soon as you can, it really is a game-changer for Christchurch!
