Feeling fur-esh

How did you treat your furry friend on International Pet Day this month? A trip to the dog park? Extra treats? Or maybe an at-home luxury spa treatment?

Dog grooming is becoming increasingly popular (evidenced by Tiktok-famous Spawdays – search it up, you won’t regret it), with products like detangler spray, pet shampoo, and cleansing wipes just a selection of what’s now available. Grooming dogs increases their overall wellbeing, from preventing painful matting and removing dirt to improving circulation and boosting their coat’s shine. It’s not too late to pamper your pooch.

Grooming your dog? Here’s some advice:
Washing: Bathing your dog is important for their hygiene, removing dirt and loose hair, and promoting a shiny coat. How often you wash your dog depends on their environment and their coat, washing every 4-8 weeks works for most, but oily coated dogs may need a bath more often. Use treats, praise, and pats to make grooming a rewarding experience.
Products: Consider the reason for the product and the condition of your dog’s skin and coat when choosing grooming products. When washing, make sure you lather the product in and thoroughly rinse it off.
Trimming nails: Trim nails when they touch the ground because when your dog’s nails get too long, it can become painful and uncomfortable. If you’re doing the job yourself with clippers, stay well away from the ‘quick’ (pink vein). If unsure, leave it to a professional.
