Eyeing up returning to school: Anstice Optometrists

Along with new shoes and a haircut, eyes also need to be school-ready.

“Children don’t typically notice eye strain as much as adults do,” says Leza Fox of Anstice Optometrists in Upper Riccarton. “Staring at screens reduces the blink rate which in turn leads to dry, irritated, and tired eyes.”

Anstice Optometrists specialise in children’s eyesight and recommend an annual optometric examination to keep track of developing eyesight issues.

Leza also suggests setting an alarm on children’s PC/devices so they are reminded of the 20-20–20 rule. “Every 20 minutes look into the distance (20 feet) for 20 seconds. In addition, take planned movement breaks from all devices to feel refreshed and refocused.”
