Dining on vitamin sea: Beach Bar

Ten out of 10 to the clever unknown who once quipped: “Beach more, worry less”. Never were there four more truer words. Gazing at the sea is the healthiest waste of time.

How lucky we are, then, to have 20 minutes from our central city, possibly one of the only bar and restaurants in New Zealand that sits right on the beach.

Beach Bar is a destination venue in the idyllic seaside village of Sumner. Open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner, here is the closest thing to heaven on earth.

Loved by locals and visitors, the panoramic sweep of ocean meeting the horizon with the snow-capped Southern Alps in the distance casts its own spell of enchantment.

Head Chef Ian Foster creates the soul-satisfying food, sourcing the freshest of ingredients, that paired with the finest of local wines equates to a magnificent dining experience.

The summer menu is already in its planning stage, and as our days grow longer and warmer, the thought of dining al fresco at the beach sounds positively divine.
